Mary's mother, Betty Krysowaty, passed away the last week of April. Mary went to Miami for a celebration of her life the first weekend of May. Betty had been ill for a while but it was still a shock that she is gone.

Obituary from the Miami Herald:

Betty Hoag Krysowaty, 86, passed away on Monday, April 28 at Baptist Hospital. She entered life on June 1, 1921 in Junction City, Kansas. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Walter; devoted sons, Clay (Valree) and Steve (Mary) and daughter, Mary (Bob) as well as 4 grandchildren, Vanessa, Clayton, Max and Walker and 2 great-grandchildren, Hope and Jackson. A business administration graduate of Potomac State College, her long business career culminated in her ownership of Office Mates 5 of Coral Gables, a successful office-support recruiting firm. She was a life-long political activist, volunteer for a host of worthy causes and an accomplished artist. After serving as president of the Zonta Club of Coral Gables, she went on to perform various duties within the Zonta International organization. An avid sportswoman and golfer, she spent many recent years on the links of the Doral Golf Resort, where she and Walter maintained a home adjacent to the Silver Course. Her loving presence and attention will be sorely missed by her family and her many friends, all of whom have benefited deeply from her incisive intellect, warm heart and from her unstintingly steadfast support and loyalty to those she loved. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to UNICEF be given in Betty Krysowaty's name (www.unicef.org).

In September, right before the price of houses fell 22% in the US, "we" bought a house! I think this qualifies me as a true "free thinker" that is getting in on the coming housing boom really early! Anyhow, for anyone that wants to see it here are a few shots with comments that don't include any further comments about "another lawn to mow", another set of utility bill to pay, more real estate taxes and other mortgage to pay!

The house sits on about 3 acres and is pretty much surrounded by woods. It's about 1 mile from the clinic which is nice.

The fence should be dog proof though you couldn't really prove it by me yet since the dogs haven't been there much yet. The fence took about 2 months to finish but is 6 ft. of wire with about 6 inches buried in concrete. It runs about 350 ft and I had a few blisters before it was done. I think it ought to subtract a few thousand dollars from the value of anybody except a dog person but then again I am!

The basement is finished and seems to have stayed fairlydry so far. I've had enough of leaky basements!

I don't think that the yard has much real grass in it but there is a really good stand of thistle! I'm working on that but don't really know what to do with the rest of it.

About 1 acre is swampy and stayed wet though our recent drought. The neighbor, who got his tractor stuck there trying to bush hog it in the past, said that there were springs feeding the water to the area.

Obviously there is good drainage to the house itself. I'm sure I'll need to buy lots of gravel for the drive until the drive get asphalt. The road that the house sits on only gets a minor amount of traffic for being close to other medium size roads. As many of you know I consider Liberty to be congested!

This is where I wish I was!!
